Describe your most memorable Mother’s Day with your mom: My mother was an art teacher and collected art books. I remember sitting with her reading the books, page-by-page.
Describe your mom's style when she was younger: My mother had a sense of style that always looked ahead. One impressively stylish look is in one of her honeymoon photos—she's wearing a trench coat that has a simple, yet interesting, silhouette. She is now in her 80s but is still a very stylish woman: she mixes and matches colors, her hair and makeup is always done well, and she never forgets her trademark sunglasses.
How has your mother's style influenced you? I have a special interest in jackets and I think that is due to my mother's wardrobe.
Favorite memory of your mom? When I was young, there was a big fire at Korea's biggest fabric market, Dongdaemoon. My mother and I went to buy fabrics that were damaged by the fire and were no longer wanted by customers. Later, she made beautiful clothes and curtains with them.
Favorite things to do together? We like to talk about various artists and their work. Also, gardening is my family's favorite activity. We have a city farm called an Allée Farm at Gwacheon, near Seoul, and we spend most weekends there. We do gardening, outdoor yoga, we barbeque, hike, and walk the dogs. It's really nice to gather with the family and enjoy a refreshing weekend.
Favorite meal your mom makes? Dumpling soup! It's one of my favorite meals.
