Bites on a Budget: $6.53 at Asiadog

If you're in the mood for a greasy, meaty, flavorful bite, look no further. Asiadog, which started as a food fair stall devoted to Asian-inspired hot dogs (with toppings like BBQ pork belly, scallions, sweet and spicy ketchup, and pickled daikon), is where it's at. And lucky for us OCers, their brick and mortar is located right in our 'hood downtown, on Kenmare Street.

I popped by today and, feeling just a little rebellious, went against the 'dog grain, ordering a Pulled Pork Sammy with Ginger BBQ Sauce. Before I knew it, I was halfway through a marriage of tang and spice that dripped with glorious, glistening, salty fat––and it felt like heaven. Wedged inside a potato bun (buttery like those perfect burger rolls at famed chef Danny Meyer's Shake Shack), a steaming mound of soft and delicious pulled pork is topped with homemade kimchi and a snappy-and-sweet BBQ sauce made in-house with fresh ginger. I ordered a second one, it was that good.
