Seeing Stripes: 'Superstripes' at Londonewcastle Project Space

We see patterns all day, every day. We walk on them, wear them, and eat them; we live in a world full of patterns that are very often overlooked. For the month of April, pattern pioneers Anna Murray and Grace Winteringham of Patternity have transformed Londonewcastle's Project Space for Pattern Power / Superstripe. The exhibition is the first of a series of events celebrating the powerful presence of pattern.

Superstripe features everyday objects, selected monochrome fashion photographs, striped installations, and a film exploring the use of stripe in 3-D installations and a 20-foot-long mural. I was lucky enough to view the stripy Jell-O workshop (one of many workshops running throughout the month) led by experimental food extraordinaires of Bompas & Parr, who specialize in creating architectural structures and landmark buildings, made of Jell-O! Zebra crossings, deck chairs, railings, humbugs, and cornrows—stripes are everywhere, and since viewing Superstripe, I can just can’t get them off my mind!

Through April 21st, 2013
