Last Thursday, Marlborough Chelsea visitors may have noticed something peculiar upon entering Andrew Kuo's You Say Tomato solo show: a considerable amount of people crouching low to the ground. What were they looking for? The meaning of each polygon in the artist's colorful, geometric, accordion-like works, found in the color-coded key at the bottom of each piece. Kuo's works look at life and quantify its moments (such as time spent "[quoting] rap albums from the 1990s more than a grown man should" or "[wondering] if there's a chain of strip club/steakhouses called Miss Steaks"), and deducing the logic of each work is a playful, vibrant game of association. OC is obvi a big fan––Kuo produced a special print for the Opening Ceremony book published by Rizzoli. Catch the show before it closes on May 4th, 2013!
