Just Eat It: The Rooftop Cafe, London

The Rooftop Cafe has been a long time coming for my friend Magnus Reid. Born and bred in Perth, Western Australia, Magnus moved to London five years ago and has been making waves in the East London culinary world ever since. Recently, he took his enterprise southeast to a highly sought-after location opposite The Shard, Europe’s tallest building.

Shortly after the grand opening, Meghan and I headed down to The Rooftop Cafe, where we were spoiled with a three-course meal. From the succinct menu, I chose the veal (with capers, lemon, and shallots), then the beef ragu on a bed of tagliatelle, and finally a healthy slice of pear and ginger cake. Meghan went for the watercress, pear, fennel, and chèvre starter, followed by a shoulder of lamb on Moroccan oats and yogurt, and for dessert, the apple and honey fool—an unusual, yet delicious, apple mousse. In the summer Magnus is expanding by building a greenhouse on the rooftop, which will be perfect for summer evenings. I know I'll be there with one of Magnus' delicious cocktails in hand!
