Since we first gave Kuhrye-oo's ambient, 2-step-infused tracks a listen, like "Give In (For the Fame)"––whose video Claire Boucher, aka Grimes, both directed and appeared in––we've been obsessed with a capital O. So naturally, it made sense to ask the Canadian-born man behind the alias, Calvin McElroy, to compose a special mixtape for OC. The result is a dope 30-minute track that'll make your ears melt and your body move. We caught up with Calvin below.

Opening Ceremony: What new artists, labels, or scenes have you been interested in lately?
Calvin McElroy: My iTunes is all over the place but as far as new releases, I'm really into everything the label Unknown to the Unknown has been putting out. DJ Q, DJ Stingray, 5kinAndBone5, Zibba. I'm especially into all the garage stuff they do. Also this label out of NYC, L.I.E.S., has been putting out some great house and techno tracks.
OC: What is your most-played song in your iTunes?
CM: "Film" by Aphex Twin.
OC: Can you tell us a little about this (sick!) mixtape you made for OC?
CM: The mix is mostly of my favorite garage tunes. I'm a huge fan of Artful Dodger, Crag David, and 2-step R&B from the late 90s. I threw some Grime and Jungle in there too, and a little clip of a new song of mine.
OC: How did you start working with Born Gold, the solo project of Cecil Frena?
CM: Cecil and I are from the same hometown in Canada. He writes and records everything, so my involvement with Born Gold was being a part of the live show. When we were on tour, I'd make my own tracks on my laptop and that's how Kuhrye-oo started. Corin of Purity Ring started the same way. We were all writing music at the same time and place, but for our own separate projects. I left Born Gold early last year though, around the time my EP on UNO came out.
OC: How did you and Claire Boucher (aka Grimes) come to work together?
CM: Born Gold and Grimes did a short tour together in 2011. Then last year, she asked us to be her backing band for the Visions tour. That's really where we first met and became friends.
OC: What's your favorite non-musical sound?
CM: I have this old trumpet that makes these obnoxiously loud clicks whenever you release the valves. It makes it impossible to play live or record with. The cli
