The plates, teapots, ashtrays, and other household objects stacked atop one another to hold up Gert and Uwe Tobias' handmade clay heads, which greet you buffet-style upon entering Team Gallery's Wooster Street space, are one indicator of the artist brothers' playful piecemeal aesthetic. The absurdism continues on the walls, where stunning, large-scale painted works of prickly flowers, grimacing ghouls, upside down butterflies, and one figure that looks like a Donald Duck mid-acid trip allow rigid geometry and abstract modernism to collide with narratives harkening back to the artists' Transylvanian folk heritage. In the Grand Street space, a series of dreamy albeit somewhat twisted collages, where figures float against watercolor-like backgrounds, are the icing on the cake. Catch the works through March 30th, 2013.
