Talk about good timing: Julien David showed fall’s most appealing outerwear yet on one of fashion month’s chilliest evenings. The coats in question were marble-patterned down parkas that looked like oversized toddler coats (in the best way). The puffy down was echoed in Julien’s new “pillow bag,” a lambskin handbag that mixes Coco Chanel with The North Face. It wasn’t all sleeping bag coziness, however. There was more than a hint of a mod, mod world in this show. Girls in skirt suits, oversized wool jackets, and flat velvet boots walked through the room to Michel Gaubert’s Joy Division-heavy soundtrack. The bleak Manchester mood was lightened by varied textures including fluffy alpaca wool and airy plumetis tops and dresses. So did Paris’s enfant terrible grow up? Maybe, just a bit.
