This season, it's all about Kathleen Kye's knee skirts. As in tiny skirts for your knees. If you haven't seen one before, obviously click through. If you have, Kye's new collection will still be full of surprises. For spring the Korean-born designer reinvents classic pieces—motorcycle jackets, mini skirts, beanies—with unusual materials (sheer nylon), technical detailing (lace-up panels), and prints (of tattoos). It's like a K-pop star got mixed up with a biker gang: Pleated mini skirts are patterned with anchors, skulls, and roses. Button-downs have metal-tipped collars. And bubblegum-pink shorts come with detachable suspenders. Needless to say, we've filed Kye alongside K-pop and kimchi in our list of favorite things from OC's year of Korea.
