On Tuesday morning, we were transported to the underground grime rave scene of the 60s, held at The Tanks at Tate Modern, for Nasir Mazhar’s FW13 presentation. Rising London rapper, Shystie, provided the soundtrack to the unique and fun presentation, while dancers sashayed in silky nylon skirts and crop tops in pink, aqua and reds—complete with oversized and cropped faux furs coats in zebra. The finishing touches to each look were the sky-high transparent plastic platforms with flashing lightglobes inside: basically, the ultimate illegal 60s grime rave shoe.
Nasir drew his inspiration from illegal raves and music videos of The Supremes, “Basically, my work is all about an imaginary world in which I wish I existed!” After Tuesday’s presentation, we wish we existed in Nasir’s imaginary world too, as clearly he knows exactly how to party!
