Fannie Schiavoni's exceptionally beautiful chain mail pieces have just arrived at OCNY and OCLA. I find it hard to write about chain mail without bringing up my obsession with LOTR, GOT, etc. So that will be the only mention. (But they really are like something one elf made for another beautiful elf, right?)
Fannie grew up in Sweden and moved to London to study tailoring at the London College of Fashion. Since graduating, she has been awarded the prestigious New Gen award by the British Fashion Council three times consecutively. Each of her pieces consists of individually cut and finished steel rings which she links together by hand. While the technique harks back to medieval Scandinavian craftsmanship, she draws on her tailoring experience for form and fit. For her current collection she has created a molded PVC bodice, and a series of chain mail tops that hang perfectly—and look even better when you move. Which is exactly why the likes of Rihanna and Gaga are fans.
