OC x NYFW: Alexander Wang FW13

New season, new location. Having shown at Pier 94 for several seasons, yesterday Alex mixed things up and presented his Fall/Winter collection at the historic Cunard Building, way down at the bottom of the island. Models marched up and over the catwalk's rise to “Eye of the Tiger,” a nod to the collection's boxing influence—as were the massive fur gloves and raglan cuts. The season is a reaction to the clean lines of Spring/Summer: what was then boxy is now voluminous and what was then crisp is now fuzzy. Outerwear was, of course, the focus, cut in contrasting fabrics like brushed mohair and soft leather to give subtle contrasts, and in other instances, given a beautiful knot twist at the front—acheived how? Only the prince of drape knows! The footwear, definitely where Alex lets the drama out, carried the fur story forward with pointed toe, open toe, and ankle-biting styles. With his highly anticipated debut collection for Balenciaga due in less than three weeks, Alex can safely jet off to Paris knowing that all's well for him in NYC.
