Book: Atget: Photographe de Paris
Price: $39.95
Why it's so great: Ever fawn over old black and white postcards of Paris only to get a bad case of wanderlust? Those images were most likely taken by Eugène Atget, the first photographer to capture the mystery and nostalgia of Paris. Originally published in 1930, this book reveals a sentimentality that could only come from Atget, known as the vieux poète de la rue (the old poet of the street). Whether or not you've been lucky enough to visit Paris, Atget's assemblage of storefronts, cafés, and hazy cobblestone squares is a welcome snapshot of what it's like to live there, even now almost a century later.
