Juergen Teller’s much-anticipated exhibition opened at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London last week. Demonstrating how the German photographer has for many years successfully navigated the terrain between personal and commercial photography, Woo presents the well-known images of Kate Moss, Kurt Cobain, and Vivienne Westwood alongside sequences of soft landscapes and family portraits.

The series Irene im Wald depicts his hometown in Germany and family and is captioned with heartfelt texts written by Juergen. He describes these photographs as “a love letter to my mother and the forest I grew up very close to.” Upstairs there is a touching portrait of Björk and her son swimming in Iceland and a self-portrait of Juergen and his son. These familial portraits are juxtaposed with more provocative images, like a nude Kate Moss reclining in a wheelbarrow, and the tongue-in-cheek Marc Jacobs campaign, starring the one and only Victoria Beckham squashed into a shopping bag.

Through March 13, 2013
