Hair dying has been a super-trend for the last few years, to the effect that no hair is shocking. So what is there left to try? Well, there are always those famous hair moments that girls have filed away in their minds. Think The Rachel needs to make a comeback? How about the waist-length platinum locks of the Barbi Twins? In our makeover series with Bumble and Bumble, we let their pros teach us how to get it right.

Our first subject is OC Online’s Fashion Editor Alice, who is living her teen dream by exploring the hair of her past and present hair idol, Angela Chase of My So-Called Life. "I love when Angela dyes her hair renegade-style in the first episode with Rayanne. It’s such a transformation for her. I love the way it fades throughout the series, too. Plus, obviously it attracts Jordan Catalano!"

Pairing Alice with Bumble’s color guru Zoe Wiepert was a match made in heaven. Zoe started dying hair when she was 17 and has rocked every hair color in the book. “The first thing I ever did was dye my hair black and it looked awful! When I tried to undo it, it turned red. That was one of my first times learning how coloring works.” Aside from her awesome personality and the hair to match, we knew Zoe was our girl because a) she’s obsessed with perfecting the way she dyes everything––from clothing to synthetic wigs––and b) her enthusiasm on the subject is totally infectious. Seriously, never did we ever think we’d be so interested in learning about hair molecules! But we left with enough info at least to act like we know what we’re talking about in front of our friends.

Check out Alice’s hair transformation and what Zoe had to say about the process of going red, getting your dream hair, and more!

"Everybody can be any color—you really can. It’s just about knowing what will work for you and what tone is right." – Zoe

One last look at Angela pre-transformation

"When you color, there's so much you can do. There are so many underlying pigments and tones to play with. We are going to put about ten different colors in Alice's hair, and when they fade, we want them all to look amazing."

"For Alice, we're doing more of a violet-based copper, red, and violet mixed in one bowl, and then we're adding extra violet so her hair looks brighter and cooler. In the other bowl, I have red, violet, and no copper, so it’s more natural-looking and will fade differently."
