If there's anything the OCLA team loves, it’s a good art show. But what we love even more is when said art show happens to be featuring the work of one of OC’s nearest and dearest friends, Silvia Prada. Last night was one such event––with Silvia's solo exhibition, The New Modern Hair, opening at the Pacific Design Center in LA.

Referencing her fascination with identity and human aesthetics, the works play off of stereotypical images of beauty and use her recent book, The New Modern Hair: A Styling Chart as a departure point. The show's large-scale mural drawings of men's hairstyles from the 50s and 60s juxtaposed with Silvia's intricate geometric shapes highlight her attention to detail and her ability to translate cultural imagery artistically. The kooky hairstyles found in the high school yearbooks of generations past are brought to life through her portraits, bringing to mind barbershop motifs and vintage pop culture. Work by Bruce LaBruce, Brian Kenny, Collier Schorr, Luis Venegas, and more is also featured.

Can't make it to the exhibit? Lucky for you, Prada’s book is available at OCNY, OCLA, and OC online for your viewing pleasure.
