'Memory Foam': Ed Templeton at Roberts & Tilton

This past Friday, artist/photographer/skateboard company owner (and one of my heroes!) Ed Templeton opened his latest show of photographs at the Roberts & Tilton gallery in Culver City. The show, titled Memory Foam, is a collection of photos taken over the past two years in Huntington Beach, where Templeton lives and works. The photos, which are mostly black-and-white, feel like a looking glass into the daily madness of Surf City. Subjects range from religious solicitors to rebellious teenagers, but the best (in my humble opinion) are the beautiful portraits of the beach itself. The show mainly attracted Orange County skater kids who are die-hard fans of Toy Machine, Templeton's kooky skateboard company. As an OCLA-er from OC, it was exciting to see such a great artist like Ed take his everyday life by the beach and turn it into a beautiful, artistic statement.
