In honor of Pitti Uomo week, our friend LISA PACLET, a native Florentine and filmmaker (she directed the Olympia Le-Tan and Yoko Ono Animation OCTV videos), shares the best, non-touristy spots to hit up in the charming Italian city. When in Florence...!

Florence is a wonderful city to visit, and the travel books will point to the traditional places––the wonderful squares, the churches, the museums––all of which you should definitely see. But here, we're trying to go off the beaten path, to places that most locals frequent. Florentines are very fun and sarcastic people; they know their stuff and if you open up to them, they will easily take you in and show you a good time. Here's a selection of places I put together for OC.

EAT
Trattoria da Rocco - Piazza Ghiberti (Mercato di Sant'Ambrogio) MAP
Located inside the Sant'Ambrogio market. Try the very tasty trippe alla fiorentina (tripe in parmesan and tomato sauce)!
Trattoria da Mario - Via Rosina, 2 MAP
Delicious, delicious, delicious! Try the famous bistecca alla Fiorentina––but do not ask to have it cooked any other way than rare. As they say on the menu, "We cook the steak as we see fit," which means rare. And it's glorious.
Vivoli - Via dell’Isola delle Stinche 7r MAP
This is A MUST. Some of the best gelato you'll ever have!

Also try...
Cammillo Trattoria - 57R Borgo Sant Jacopo MAP
Trattoria Sostanza (Il Troia) - Via Porcellana, 25/r MAP
Il Cibreo - Via dei Macci, 118r MAP
Da il Latini - Via Palchetti 6/r MAP
La Casa del Prosciutto - Via Ponte a Vicchio, 1, (Vicchio Province of Florence)
