Bites on a Budget: $6.53 at Cutting Board

BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under $10!

Intrigued at the prospect of Chinese, Japanese, American, and Italian fusion, I stopped by Cutting Board in Chinatown last week. From their straightforward menu (consisting of salads, pastas, omelets, burgers, and curries), I chose the chicken teriyaki burger with peppered fries ($6). Like my favorite burger spot in the city, Shake Shack, the burger bun was soft, the iceberg lettuce was crisp, and the tomato was perfectly ripe. The teriyaki marinade on the chicken wasn't overwhelming and the fries were perfectly crispy. No condiments necessary!

My typical food envy set in when I saw what others ordered—the CB Mussels ($8) with sake, cream, and saffron and the Cutting Board Salad ($8) with heirloom tomatoes, avocado, frisee, romaine lettuce, and truffle soy looked particularly tasty. Next time, I think I'll get the pork katsu curry. My check arrived with a complimentary mango pudding, further sweetening the total balance of $6.53, including tax.
