Peter Nadin's Taxonomy Transplanted

The Horticultural Society is an extremely fitting place for Peter Nadin's ongoing show Taxonomy Transplanted, which expertly explores the consciousness of plants, animals, and the landscape. The farm is central to Nadin's work and this is apparent in his visually arresting pieces, all of which utilize natural materials from his farm in Greene County, New York, known as Old Field, where he also has his studio. The paper that serves as the base for his paintings, for instance, is constructed out of cattails and bamboo grown on the grounds.

The exhibition, his latest solo show since last year's First Mark at Gavin Brown's Enterprise, also features a short film made in collaboration with Aimee Toledano as well as a book, Taxonomy Transplanted: Art, Language, Farming, containing essays by Robert L. Beyfuss, Jason Farago, Chris Murtha, and Glenn O'Brien. The show is a testimony to Peter Nadin's exceptional work, and certainly transplants you into a greener place while still being in the city.
