The glassy floor of the Mary Boone Gallery at 5th Avenue is like a narcissian pool for Jim Isermann's seductively geometric and colorful pieces. Ranging from functional pieces (shag rugs, furniture, and a quilt) to pieces of art for art's sake (wall paintings and mobiles), the mathematically precise and psychedelic works in Reunion represent a sampling of the CalArts graduate's work from the 1980s. The show's centerpiece, Flower Seating Group (1985), consists of chairs that face away from each other, and makes one wonder whether the anti-social yet social seating arrangement was invented to enjoy a flower power-fueled acid trip.
The exhibition continues through February 4, 2012.
