Bites on a Budget: $8.75 at Parm

BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under $10!

Looking to escape the freezing winds that have swept New York City, our gang of interns sought refuge at an Italian eatery just blocks from OC. Parm is a sandwich shop spinoff from the restaurateurs behind the talked-about Torrisi. Their minimal menu is packed with a punch, filled with classic offerings like sandwiches, baked ziti, fried calamari, salads, vegetable sides, and sweets. The holiday salad ($8.75) was quite possibly one of the best Italian tossed salads I've ever had. Loaded with black olives, chopped salami, roasted bell peppers, vinegared sliced red onions, and provolone cheese, it was the perfect blend of sweet and tangy flavors.

The girls ordered the mozz sticks ($9.80). These were fried and served with chunky marinara, and they oozed with goodness. We also made sure to try the chicken parm ($8.75), possibly the restaurant's most popular order amongst its hungry lunch-goers. Served on a toasted semolina roll, the chicken, tomato sauce, and cheese sandwich is a warm, hearty, and delicious bite––perfect for those nippy winter days. While the portions were somewhat small, the flavors were nonetheless bold. On our next visit, we've resolved to try their triple-decker, chicken salad, bacon, and chips Saratoga Club sandwich.
