OC Community, Sandy Edition: Emmett Shine

Hurricane Sandy hit New York and the East Coast hard, and OC friends and family are getting their hands dirty to help those affected. Meet the individuals who are making the recovery happen, all wearing the T-shirt we created to benefit the Ali Forney Center for homeless LGBT youth, which suffered devastating damage from the storm. First up is Emmett Shine, co-founder of the skateboarding-based lifestyle collective LOLA New York and founder of Gin Lane, the makers of the OC Annual iPad app whose workspace we popped into recently.

How are you involved in Hurricane Sandy relief? Gin Lane along with Raise Cache, The Smile, Saturdays Surf, Whitmans, and Cantora Records created Rockaway Relief. We raised money, bought supplies, and transported over 400 volunteers to the Rockaways this weekend in concert with Rockaway Beach Surf Club and Waves for Water.

What about this experience has been moving to you? The hope that people would do the same for me and my family if we needed it.

What can others do to help post-Sandy efforts? Please go to The Rockaways or Staten Island and help out in person. They need all the help they can get.
