Making a pencil skirt covered in pencils is a very Alice in Wonderland move. ("Why, of course a pencil skirt is made of pencils.") It's also a very Mary Katrantzou move: Mary has shown her literal streak before by making skirts shaped like lampshades for an interiors-inspired collection! And a trip down a rabbit hole isn't a bad description of the designer's Fall/Winter 2012 offering. This season, Mary's prints blend together chess pieces and marble horses, garden paths and grosgrain ribbons. Like hypnotic Photoshop collages, the patterns juxtapose objects in unexpected and eye-popping combinations. Rulers turn into flying ponies, terriers merge with guitars... Each piece is a wearable game of I Spy!
