We checked in with some of our favorite artists during this year's CMJ music marathon.

Von Haze's sound (much like SALEM and Gatekeeper's, other favorites of ours) is slow-paced, dark, sparse, somewhat meditative, and layered with eerie electronics. Last night, the very awesome Zana Bayne hosted the Pendu Sound Recordings Showcase, which featured performances not only by Von Haze, but also by STARRED, Black Marble, You., and Tempers. Peep how Travis Caine and Katherine Kin, the duo that makes up the band, answered our CMJ questionnaire.

Chris Puidokas: Fill in the blanks: Our band is a _____ and our music is like _____.
Von Haze: Our band is the spirit and our music is like the temple.

CP: What's your favorite music video?
VH: It's the "Suicide High" video from our Kar Dee Akk Ake LP.

CP: Favorite non-musical sound?
VH: Silence

CP: What's your spirit animal?
VH: The Sillhqey (a mythical two-headed snake)

CP: Do you freak out?
VH: I think we should meet first and discuss safe words.

CP: Favorite thing to do when you're not playing music or listening to music?
VH: Taking photographs, traveling without music equipment, cooking, and eating good food with friends

CP: What's one thing that you are obsessed with right now?
VH: "The Right Now", why we're not, and how to live as an artist

CP: What's your desert island disc?
VH: A really shiny one to reflect the sun. Always handy for making a fire.

CP: What are you gonna be for Halloween this year?
VH: The digital form of our record available for download.

Von Haze's record Kar Dee Akk Ake will be available via iTunes on October 31 and in stores November 6.
