After a tardy London-Paris train prevented us from attending Simon Porte JACQUEMUS’ Spring/Summer presentation, "La Maison, L'Été 2013," we knew a showroom visit was in order. There we were met by Simon and his model, OC pal, and the head of Agence M&K, Persephone Kessanidis. Every season, Simon constructs a female character who embodies the story of the collection. And while her look and mood changes from season to season, her loose hair, make-up free face, and broad smile are enviable constants.
Simon’s spring woman seems domesticated, what with her wardrobe of pinafores, aprons, and tunics. But don’t be fooled into thinking she’s spending her days drying dishes or hanging out the washing, for the lady is a vamp! That pinafore I mentioned is made from an entirely translucent fabric and shirts are more often than not cropped at the midriff. Like previous collections, Simon has focused on minimalism and proportion, letting the broad pleats, sleeves, and straps speak for themselves.
