Everyman Espresso, a new coffee spot that just opened up nearby, has us on a caffeine high. I recently got lost in a latte at their new, slightly kitchy second location in Soho. Owner Sam Penix was going for a 1970s kitchen vibe with the place, and he achieved exactly this, with an added Scandinavian edge. You can get all the coffee works at Everyman, and this coffee is good––they use the beans of specialty roasters Counter Culture Coffee. Even their iced coffee, made from a flavor-infused Japanese brew over ice, is a step up from your basic cup of iced joe.
To eat, there are deliciously glazed doughnuts in classic, maple almond, and blood orange from none other than Dough in Bedford Stuyvesant (which is known as one of the city's best). Apple turnovers, croissants, and pains au chocolat are also on the menu. But if you need something to do while the barista whips up your Americano, there are publications like Coffee Life in Japan by Merry White or the latest Paris Review to flick through, both of which are available for purchase. Our recommendation? Get your order to stay––getting to sip it from a vintage 70s glass is the icing on the cake.
