Not only is this OC alumnus Nick Darmstaedter’s first time exhibiting in London, but it is also his first visit to the city, too. Lucky then that he had his pals and fellow Still House group artists Jack Greer and Isaac Brest here with him (Jack is currently in a Still House group show, Capiche? at Workshop in Venice), as well as a place to stay with Londoner Gabriel Pryce (of Rita's restaurant, which we featured here).

In this exhibition Nick has brought over some previously shown works, like James Blond and the British National Modern Wimbledon Library (Pink Panther Blond) and Bogus Journey, a work made by printing with old US copper pennies that have been treated with a vinegar solution. In a new piece, The September Issue, he engages with the foreign context his work is exhibited in, displaying multiple September magazines from both London and New York on a rack alongside an Indian mango, a nod to nearby Brick Lane. I particularly like Wreckin’ Cru, an alternative readymade weight-lifting bar constructed from manhole covers and a barbell. Demonstrating Nick’s multidisciplinary talent, this show is well worth a visit before it ends on October 27th.
