At the end of a super long fashion week, after hundreds of looks and too many shows, we still somehow always look forward to Gerlan Jeans, because we know it's going to be fun, unpretentious, witty, and super-cute. This season was no different, as Gerlan took us back to the mall. This time, instead of slimed-out mall witches, we met her version of Minnie Mouse (ladylike, yet in control) and a slew of her assertive "Gerl Power" princesses.
The first half of the show was devoted to Disney icon Minnie Mouse, or Gerlan's interpretation of her all-things-cute style: buns, mouse ears, pink bow prints, oversized babydoll shapes, and LOTs of dots. Our favorite was probably a baby blue neoprene coat embellished with big round white buttons, like the ones you'd scoop up from Hot Topic and use to decorate your jean jacket in middle school.
The buttons came back later, emblazoned with genius taglines like "Riot Princess," "HERstory," "Gerl-y Gerl," and "99% Angel," decorating hair and collaged over a full-length dress. The second half of the show consisted of Gerlan's Independent Women looks: warrior princesses in camo cut-offs, boxing Gerls in shorts and sports bras, and a trio of Amazonian ladies in Gerlan-printed satin evening gowns. We can't wait to see which Gerl-y Gerl will rock one of those on the red carpet next spring.
