Bites on a Budget: $8.75 at Little Muenster

BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under $10!

The Lower East Side's LITTLE MUENSTER specializes in "super fancy cheese sandwiches". The words fancy and cheese in the same sentence? Major turn on. As my fellow intern and grilled cheese enthusiast Rachel and I would discover, this is the place to go when you crave good ol' comfort food for the sophisticated palate.

A-mazing cheeses (which range from classic white American singles to Stilton) are paired with ingredients like candied ginger, pear purée, and sage brown butter. Rachel ordered the gruyère, chèvre, leek confit, and pancetta on French sourdough ($8.75) while I got the muenster with porcini and shiitake mushrooms on peasant bread ($9). Both our grilled perfections came with a complementary side of homemade crisps. There's also the option of adding bone marrow butter on your sandwich for an extra $1... Oh you fancy, huh?
